SharePoint Server 2019 End of Life: October 14, 2026

SharePoint 2019 Migration: Act Before October 2026

SharePoint Server 2019 reaches end of life on October 14, 2026. Unlike previous versions, there is no extended support option. After this date, Microsoft will not issue security patches.

Organizations with mid-to-large environments must begin migration no later than Q1 2026 to meet the deadline safely.

What Happens If You Don't Migrate?

Running SharePoint Server 2019 past October 14, 2026 creates serious security and compliance risks that cannot be mitigated without patching:

  • Security vulnerabilities from unpatched SharePoint after October 2026
  • HIPAA, SOC 2, FedRAMP, and PCI DSS compliance failure
  • No Microsoft support for incidents after EOL date
  • Loss of access to Microsoft Copilot (cloud-only feature)
  • Inability to integrate with modern Microsoft 365 services

Why Migrate to SharePoint Online?

  • Microsoft Copilot AI — available only in the cloud
  • Always current — no more version upgrades needed
  • Built-in compliance: HIPAA, FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO 27001
  • Lower TCO — eliminate server hardware and maintenance
  • Native Teams, OneDrive, and Power Platform integration
  • Automatic updates — access new features as Microsoft ships them

SharePoint 2019 Migration FAQs

What happens to SharePoint 2019 after October 14, 2026?
After October 14, 2026, Microsoft will no longer provide security patches, bug fixes, or technical support for SharePoint Server 2019. Unlike SharePoint 2013 and 2016, there is NO extended support option for SharePoint 2019. Running it after the deadline means operating with unpatched security vulnerabilities — a serious risk for HIPAA, SOC 2, FedRAMP, and PCI DSS compliance.
How long does a SharePoint 2019 migration take?
Migration timelines depend on data volume and complexity: small environments (<1TB, <500 users) take 6-10 weeks; mid-size (1-10TB, 500-5,000 users) take 10-18 weeks; large (>10TB, 5,000+ users) take 16-26 weeks. To meet the October 2026 deadline, organizations with mid-to-large environments should begin the migration process no later than Q1 2026.
Will I lose data or customizations when migrating from SharePoint 2019?
No. Our migration methodology preserves all content, metadata, permissions, version history, and most customizations. Modern SPFx-based customizations migrate directly. Legacy InfoPath forms, classic workflows, and SharePoint Designer workflows require remediation and replacement with Power Automate equivalents — we handle this as part of our migration service.
What is the cost of a SharePoint 2019 migration?
Migration costs depend on data volume, user count, customization complexity, and compliance requirements. Ranges: small environments (<1TB): $15,000–$40,000; mid-size (1-10TB): $40,000–$150,000; large (>10TB): $150,000–$350,000+. Get a fixed-price assessment for $2,500–$8,000 that gives you a precise quote and a detailed migration plan. See our full SharePoint migration cost guide.
Can I upgrade to SharePoint 2022 or another on-premises version instead of going to the cloud?
There is no SharePoint 2022 — Microsoft has shifted to SharePoint Subscription Edition (SPSE) as the on-premises path forward. SPSE is supported until October 2028 (with likely extension). However, SPSE requires a new license and server infrastructure investment. For most organizations, SharePoint Online offers significantly lower TCO, better compliance controls, and access to Microsoft Copilot. We recommend evaluating both paths during our migration assessment.
